How to schedule a LinkedIn post from ChatGPT
Connect the right LinkedIn account, write from real source notes, review the post and schedule it with SceneSmith.
Example brief for a fictional analytics company: A weekly report export is available today. Three customers asked for an easier way to share reports with finance. Do not name customers or invent results.
“A report is only useful if the people who need it can actually read it. Three customers told us their finance teams needed a simpler handoff, so we added a weekly export. It is available today. If your team passes reports between departments, this one is for you.”
LinkedIn · Waiting for your reviewhttps://app.scenesmith.design/api/mcpThe awkward part of writing a LinkedIn post in ChatGPT is what happens next. You still need to copy the text, find the right company Page or profile, choose a time and check that the post actually went out.
SceneSmith can carry the draft from ChatGPT to your LinkedIn destination. This walkthrough shows the connection and the review step. If you prefer to write inside LinkedIn, its own scheduler is free and may be all you need.

If the destination does not appear, check the account authorization in SceneSmith before trying to schedule from ChatGPT.
- Sign in to SceneSmith and choose the workspace for the brand.
- Open Connections in the app and connect the LinkedIn profile or Page you are authorized to publish to.
- Read back the exact destination name. Do not assume your personal profile and company Page are interchangeable.
Add SceneSmith to ChatGPT
OpenAI changes these menus and limits access by plan and workspace. Follow the current OpenAI instructions linked below if the option is missing. You can still create a LinkedIn draft in SceneSmith's web composer.
- Open the SceneSmith connection guide. Copy the production MCP endpoint: https://app.scenesmith.design/api/mcp.
- In a ChatGPT workspace that supports write-capable custom MCP apps, add the endpoint using its current Apps or developer settings and complete SceneSmith authorization.
- In a new chat, ask ‘Show my SceneSmith setup status.’ Confirm the workspace and LinkedIn account shown in the response.
Give ChatGPT a real note to work from
A vague request such as ‘write a thought leadership post’ produces a vague post. Give it the source note, a specific reader and a point of view. In the example above, the useful story is that finance teams needed a way to pass a report along. The post should explain that problem before announcing the feature.
- Try: ‘Draft a LinkedIn post for product managers using only the note above. Keep the customer anonymous. Explain the problem, what changed and who can use the export. Save it as a draft for [exact LinkedIn account]. Show me the full preview. Do not schedule yet.’
Review the preview, then choose a time
Check the first two lines, every factual claim, any link, the destination and the scheduled time. Be explicit about time zone. If a sentence sounds like a claim you could not defend to a customer, revise it before approval. Then schedule the version you reviewed.
- If you scheduled in SceneSmith, look in SceneSmith's calendar and activity record.
- If you scheduled natively in LinkedIn, look in LinkedIn's scheduled-post view.
- After the due time, check for a delivery result. A queued post and a published post are different states.
Should you use LinkedIn's free scheduler instead?
Yes, if you only need to schedule a post you wrote in LinkedIn. SceneSmith earns its place when you already work in ChatGPT, manage more than one brand or channel, or want the draft, approval and delivery record together. It has a card-required seven-day trial and paid plans after that.
Questions people ask
Can ChatGPT post directly to LinkedIn?
Only through an authorized publishing connection. ChatGPT writing the text does not give it permission to publish to your LinkedIn account.
Is scheduling a LinkedIn post free?
LinkedIn's built-in scheduler is free for supported post types. SceneSmith is a separate paid workflow for drafting and publishing from connected tools.
Where can I see a post scheduled through SceneSmith?
Check the SceneSmith calendar or activity record. It may not appear in LinkedIn's native scheduled-post list before delivery.
